Can a person predestined to salvation lose his salvation by free will?

Asked by: Bro. Raymundo Beltre from Dominican Republic
Answered by: Bro. Eli Soriano by means of verses from the Bible

Brother Raymundo, first of all, there is no person created by God who is not predestined to be saved. All persons created by God are predestined for salvation. Let us read 1 Timothy 2:4 –

1 Timothy 2:4
who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

The feeling or thinking of God is,

1 Timothy 2:4
who wants ALL PEOPLE TO BE SAVED and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

This refers to all people. There is nobody excluded from the thinking of God that all people he created will be saved. Let us read in 2 Peter 3:9 –

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

It says, NOT WANTING ANYONE TO PERISH. Because he wants that ALL PEOPLE TO BE SAVED, therefore “not wanting anyone to perish.” Nobody… it is very clear that all people are predestined by God for salvation, or predestined to be saved.

But why are there people who lost their salvation, which is intented by God for them? Let us read in 1 Corinthians 9:27 –

1 Corinthians 9:27
No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Who is speaking in this verse is the apostle Paul. He said,

1 Corinthians 9:27
No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

We must usderstand that apostle Paul was since he was inside his mother’s womb was already predestined to be an apostle of Christ. Let us read in Galatians 1:15 –

Galatians 1:15
But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased

He was called to be an apostle. Apostle Paul said confessing to the Galatians –

Galatians 1:15
But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me…

Since birth, Paul was already predestined for salvation and to be an apostle of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Galatians 1:15
… and called me by his grace, …

He was called by God to be an apostle. In Romans 1:1 let us read –

Romans 1:1
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—

It is very clear. He was called, he was set apart, he was predestined to be an apostle to reach salvation. But while he was preaching, Paul confessed to those in Corith –

1 Corinthians 9:27
No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Why? Let us read Romans 2:20 –

Romans 2:20 – 23
20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth—
21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
23 You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?

You, as a preacher, who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? That is why even if you are already predestined for salvation, but by means of your recklessness, you can lost the salvation. Just like what apostle Paul said. He said,

1 Corinthians 9:27
No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

The salvation may be lost. It is according to the word of God itself. Let us read in 1 Cronicles 28:9 –

1 Cronicles 28:9
“And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

It is very clear.

1 Cronicles 28:9
…If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

If God will reject you forever, you will lost the salvation. That is why even in the books of the New Testaments it is very clear the teaching that if you are reckless, living a life carelessly not regarding the instructions of God, you may lose your salvation. In 2 Corinthians 13:5 –

2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?

Even if our Lord Jesus Christ is in you, even if He is walking with you, but if you do not continue in faith, the verse says –

2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; …

Why? Because if you must stay firm in faith. If you continue in faith you will not be a reprobate.

2 Corinthians 13:5
… Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?

There is a possibility for being a reprobate, wherein our Lord Jesus Christ will leave you. Because the promise of our Lord Jesus Christ is “I will be with you until the end of times.” But if you will not stay firm in faith there will be a possibility that the Lord Jesus Christ will leave you. That is if you are not going to stay in faith. Let us read Hebrews 10:36 –

Hebrews 10:36-38
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
For,
“In just a little while,
he who is coming will come
and will not delay.”
And,
“But my righteous one will live by faith.
And I take no pleasure
in the one who shrinks back.”

It is true. My righteous one will live by faith. But if the righteous will turn back from living in righteousness, the Lord said, “I take no pleasure in the one…” Therefore you will be left by God.

Will that be clear to you, Brother Raymundo?

Bro. Raymundo: Amen

Thank you but it is not yet complete. Why? Let us read in 2 John 1-:8 –

2 John 1:8
Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.

To the disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ, as John said,

2 John 1:8
Watch out THAT YOU DO NOT LOSE WHAT WE HAVE WORKED FOR…

What is the intention of what the apostles have worked for? Let us read in 1 Timothy 4:10 –

1 Timothy 4:10
That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.

That is why we labor, the work of the apostles and disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ is for the salvation.

1 Timothy 4:10
That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, WHO IS THE SAVIOR OF ALL PEOPLE…

The labor of the apostles is directed for the salvation of all people. But John said,

2 John 1:8
Watch out that you do not lose WHAT WE HAVE WORKED FOR,…

Therefore, salvation can be lost. Do not believe in the ministers of the baptist church and those ministers who believed that whatever you do if you are predestinated you will be saved. It is a very great lie.

May God bless you, brother Raymundo.

    Si quisiereis, y oyereis, comeréis el bien de la tierra;
